چکیده

Purpose: To evaluate Optical coherence tomographic (OCT) biomarkers in participants diagnosed with diabetes, diabetic retinopathy (DR) and macular edema (DME) co relation disease severity. Methods: Demographics, visual acuity, SD-OCT, colour fundus photographs of 110 individuals DR DME (200 eyes) evaluated between December 2020 October 2022 were analysed to severity corelation. Features captured on SD-OCT thickness metrics. On we the OCT scans (Macular cube 6 mm x mm) for central subfield biomarkers: disorganization inner retinal layers (DRIL), presence hyperreflective dots foci their location, intraretinal cystoid abnormalities shape septae within the, integrity external limiting membrane ellipsoid zone. Results: 101 patients evaluated; 66 eyes had (33%) moderate NPDR, followed by 38 (19%) mild 29 (15%) severe 14 (7%) very NPDR. Biomarkers like DRIL, Hyperreflective foci, ELM EZ disruption (p = 0.001) spaces 0.003) correlated positively negatively VA. Conclusion: imaging can be utilised as an efficient tool understanding inter individual differences acuity when there is no difference ETDRS-based grading that evident clinically.

Correlation between Visual Acuity and Optical Coherence Tomography-Measured Retinal Thickness in Diabetic Macular Edema

Background and Objective: Diabetic macular edema (DME) is one of the common complications of diabetes which significantly accounts for preventable visual impairment and blindness. Central macular thickness (CMT) is a feature found in DME patients. This study aims to determine the relationship between optical coherence tomography (OCT)-measured CMT and visual acuity (VA) in patients with DME bef...

Validity of Optical Coherence Tomography as a Diagnostic Method for Diabetic Retinopathy and Diabetic Macular Edema

To validate optical coherence tomography (OCT) for the diagnosis of referable retinopathy (severe, very severe or proliferative retinopathy, and macular edema) in diabetic patients. We performed a cross-sectional observational study. A random sample was analyzed comprising 136 eyes of diabetic patients referred to the hospital in Elche (Spain) with suspected referable retinopathy between Octobe...

[International clinical diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular edema disease severity scales].

Need for International Clinical Disease Severity Scale: There is a need for a unified, international disease severity scale for diabetic retinopathy (DR) and diabetic macular edema (DME) in both the U.S. and all parts of the world. Although the Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study (ETDRS) staging system is recognized as the gold standard for grading in clinical trials, in everyday clinica...

Relationship between fluorescein pooling and optical coherence tomographic reflectivity of cystoid spaces in diabetic macular edema.

OBJECTIVE To study the characteristics of the reflectivity of the cystoid spaces and serous retinal detachment (SRD) on spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) and the correlation with fluorescein findings in diabetic macular edema (DME). DESIGN Retrospective, observational, cross-sectional study. PARTICIPANTS Consecutive 134 eyes of 114 patients with clinically significant ma...

Optical coherence tomographic characteristics of microaneurysms in diabetic retinopathy.

PURPOSE To characterize microaneurysms in diabetic retinopathy (DR) depicted by spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT). DESIGN Retrospective, observational case series. METHODS We surveyed a consecutive series of 76 eyes from 60 patients with DR (22 mild nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy [NPDR]; 43 moderate NPDR; 9 severe NPDR; 2 proliferative diabetic retinopathy [PDR]) ...
